Yellow, 2023. Mary Kathryn Ford and Charlotte Richardson-Deppe. Soft-sculpture and performance. Photographs by Mark Williams.

Performed with Mary Kathryn Ford in the Cafritz Foundation Theater at the Clarice Center for Performing Arts. Supported by the Jim Henson Award for Puppetry.

This two-person garment is as playful as it is restricting, highlighting limb extensions, tangling, and holding tension. Someone who’d never seen my work before commented that this piece reminds them of the genre of “body horror” but far gentler—eerie distortions of bodies that are sometimes playful, sometimes unsettling, but never horrifying. To me, my works feel accurate to the experience of having a body in the world—I portray inner narratives of our bodies that are not externally or physically visible.
